On Sunday, 03July, due to pain and redness in her hands and the bottoms of her feet, Karen was instructed to stop taking chemo (Xeloda). This is a common side affect of this drug known as hand-foot syndrome. She will speak with her doctor on Tuesday (05July) to discuss when and in what amount to begin taking again.

Today, 04July, is a significant day for all of us when we stop to celebrate our country's independence. It also marks the 15th anniversary of when Karen and I began courting (dating). I have the pleasure of celebrating both events with her today. We live in a free country by the grace of God and the sacrifices of so many. We have much to be thankful for today and everyday.

Karen is scheduled for surgery tomorrow, 05July, to place the port in her chest wall. It is scheduled for 07:00 at Northside hospital and is expected to be done as an outpatient. Please pray for a smooth, complication free procedure for Karen and a wise focused mind and precise hand for the doctor, Elizabeth "Betsy" Steinhaus.
