I meant to post an update earlier in the week but Karen has not been feeling well so my attentions have been keeping up with the all the stuff of daily living. She has been nauseated and experiencing some pain. She gets winded easily and has to rest often which really frustrates her because she feels like she isn’t doing enough. I tell her if the role was reversed I would let her and anybody else who wanted to care for my every need which always brings a smile from her.

Yesterday, 06Jun07, we went to the Gastroenterologist to discuss several concerns that were noted in the PET scan. After reviewing the last 3 scans and listening to Karen discuss her concerns with the swelling and pain she is experiencing in the same area she was when originally diagnosed, the doctor sent her over for an ultrasound.

We learned the results of the ultrasound today and aside from a small amount of ascites (excess fluid in the space between the tissues lining the abdomen and abdominal organs) the test didn’t reveal any cause for further concern. That said we know the type of cancer Karen has is extremely fast growing and can turn from “nothing” to “something” very quickly. Given the fact that she is experiencing pain, shortness of breath and nausea clearly something isn’t right.

As of this posting she is finishing up a week of chemotherapy (Xeloda). This will give her 6 less pills to take and week free of the chemo. She continues to take the new medication (Tykerb). Please continue pray for this new medication to target the cancer cells destroying them completely while leaving healthy cells alone. Also pray for Karen’s strength to return, the pain to vanish and for a long and healthy life. All things are possible with God.
